New Indoor Pickleball Facility to Open in Spring 2024

(Murrysville, PA) — Pickleball Harbor, Pittsburgh’s only dedicated indoor pickleball facility, announces its finalized location at 5201 Mellon Road in Murrysville. The new 14,500 sq ft facility will begin outfitting the interior with premium features in December with a projected grand opening in the spring of 2024.

This fast-growing sport, loved by Pittsburghers, is overtaking repurposed tennis courts at local parks and indoor multi-sport facilities — with players waiting hours for their turn. And while demand is high, indoor space is severely limited for the community to enjoy the sport year-round in less-than-ideal weather.

As its name implies, Pickleball Harbor will provide a sheltered place to comfort and protect local players from adverse weather – aiming to play host to pickleball enthusiasts from Westmoreland County, Allegheny County, and surrounding areas.

Boasting 6 tournament-sized pickleball courts, the facility is planning a state-of-the-art facility, including: tournament grade nets, indirect LED lighting, court dividers, USA Pickleball-approved court surfaces, a proshop, multiple membership levels, lessons and leagues for all skill levels, open play, DUPR matches, and advanced court reservations to plan play without the hassle of waiting.

“With Pittsburgh’s weather constraints — wind, humidity, snow and rain — we’re left locally with a little over a third of the year to comfortably play this well-loved sport. We’re excited to offer pickleball players in the Pittsburgh area a home — an indoor facility where they can play year-round, rain or shine,”says Jillian Bateman-McIntosh, owner of Pickleball Harbor. “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly passionate local pickleball players. This sport is about inclusivity and community. I’m excited to bring that energy — of competition, well being, and friendships to our new facility.”

Pickleball Harbor aims to promote the development and growth of pickleball in the greater Pittsburgh area.

“Whether you are a seasoned pickleball player or just getting started, Pickleball Harbor has something for you,” says David Vargo, Owner of Pickleball Harbor. “If all goes smoothly, by the end of February we will be inviting the community to come check out our new facility and see for yourself why Pickleball Harbor is the best place to play pickleball in Pittsburgh.”

Comparable indoor facilities in the region have sold out of membership availability within months of opening.

Pickleball Harbor memberships will be limited and are expected to be available for pre-sale in December
